Great for beginners to work on increases, decreases, and double crochet.
More of a recipe than a pattern, but bear with me.
With a J hook,
Foundation: chain 38
(flair 1)
Row 1: dbl in 2nd chain from hook and in each chain across, chain 2 turn
Row 2-5: dbl in each stitch across, chain 2 turn
Row 6: dbl2tog in each across, chain 2 turn
Row 7: repeat row 6
(skinny)
Row 8-112 (as many as to row 125 for longer scarf): dbl in each stitch across, chain 2 turn
(flair 2)
Row 113: 2 dbl in each stitch across, chain 2 turn
row 114: repeat row 113
row 115-119: dbl in each stitch across, chain 2 turn
row 120: dbl in each across, bind off and weave in ends
Wear without anything, or make a scarf pin with a hair-tie and button. (I if you want a tutorial on this technique, just leave me a comment, and I'll put one together.)

ReplyDeleteDbl2Tog is Double crochet 2 stitches together. yarn over on hook, insert in next stitch, draw a loop through, insert in next stitch, draw a 4th loop through, yarn over, and draw through 3 of the 4 loops, yarn over and draw through last 2.
ReplyDeleteThis is just 1 method of doing a dbl2tog
The other method is to finish the 1st half of a regular dbl, then when you are only 2 loops on your hook, insert in next stitch and draw a loop through. then yarn over and draw through all loops on stitch.
This stitch pulls 2 stitches together into 1, decreasing the width of the scarf.

How many stitches across is the center section supposed to be?
ReplyDeleteI'm making two of these for my boyfriend's aunts for Christmas -- very excited! The pattern is adorable and it's great with that fuzzy yarn that is hard to follow patterns with because you can't see your stitches very well.

Mine original is 102 rows, I used every inch of my 2 skeins, but it depends on how long you want it. One suggestion, make the scarf as long as your recipient is tall, so to calculate the skinny stitches, measure your wearers height, and subtract about 8-12 inches (for the flairs) then stitch the remaining length in the plain dbl. hope this helps.

how many yards of yarn did this take? And also how long did it taketo make?
ReplyDeleteI don't remember exact yardage, but it took almost exactly 2 ball of Moda dea, which has been discontinued, so 2 balls of Joann's Sensations "Cello", "Beautiful", or "Angel Hair" would be about the same.
ReplyDeleteAs for time, I finished the whole thing watching a couple episodes of stargate sg-1, so I'd figure, since you arent also designing as you go along, it should take about an hour to an hour and a half.
hey, did you do a turtorial on the scarf hair pin thing? I would like to be able to do that.
